Why International? Why films for youth?
“There is a great difference between a childlike film and a childish film. We need to think of ways to reach out to children far and wide with films that are fun and something they take interest in. It is not important for kids’ films to be preachy at all. There are so many interesting and engaging stories to tell them, only the method needs to be interesting” ~ Nandita Das, Actor and former chairperson of Children’s Film Society of India (CFSI)
It’s after seeing films like this (Isdraken/Ice Dragon) that I realise just how well-made kids films can really be. Sometimes you look at some of them and think “How insulting!” and not just on behalf of yourself, but on behalf the target audience as well. Kids are people too, and they deserve cool movies just like the rest of us! Luckily films like this do exist to counter-act all those polished Disney “gems” and can-we-please-take-a-little-break-now hyperactive CGI animations. ~ Nis, Swedish film reviewer
